In 1955, the dam (an enormous construction 120m high), built to dam the Durance River, and Serre Ponçon Lake, a magnificent crescent-shaped body of water covering plan 3000 (with a capacity of 1271 billion m3 of water) opening the Ubaye Valley to tourism and discovery of an intact, untainted nature.

One cannot tire of admiring the splendor to the Lake in all seasons, at any time.
